In Matthew 15 we find the Lord debunking the approach of the Pharisees to the law of God. We read, as follows, in Matthew 15:12-14:-
Then the disciples came to him and asked, ‘Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?’
He replied, ‘Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.’
What caught my attention recently in reading this passage is the disastrous consequences of following the wrong teachers who are bringing the wrong teaching. So many people are so careless in this realm. They conclude if someone looks nice and seems to be saying nice things then there is no problem. There seems a lack of willingness to investigate what the teacher is saying. It is shocking how indifferent people are.
I was speaking with a Roman Catholic “priest” recently who obviously had no awareness of what the true gospel was. And there he was in a position where he was influencing many and influencing them not in accord with biblical truth.
We need to be so careful who we follow. To follow the likes of the aforementioned priest, is to be headed for the pit with such false teachers. They may have looked the real deal, but there was need to look deeper. Oh may the Lord make us careful about who we follow.
We should, as the Word says in Isaiah 8:20 Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. And if we conclude they have no light we should reject their ways and their teaching.
Oh be careful with these things, your eternal destiny is on the line.
