There is something very striking in the fact that the creatorial acts of God in Genesis 1 originate with God speaking. See in verses 3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26 and 29 that they all state that “God said”. Do we not see a principle established here that when God speaks things happen? And if you look through Scripture it is instructive to observe how much of the activity of God is flowing out of Him speaking. For example in the prophets the following “And the Word of the Lord came” is regularly found.
This raises the question does God speak today? If he does speak we can expect things to happen? And we believe that when we read Scripture we read the Word of the Lord. When Scripture is read then the Word of the Lord is declared. When Scripture is faithfully preached, then we are bringing forth that which is in accord with the Word of the Lord to people. So Yes God is speaking today. And it is established when God speaks things happens.
Isaiah 55:11 encourages us in this as follows:
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
it will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
So let us go forth declaring God’s Word and expecting things to happen.
