…….speak up so that all can hear. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 14:9 So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. This verse appears in a passage dealing with the issue of the communicating of that which is edifying in church. Accordingly, I don’t want to be guilty of wrenching a scripture out of context.
However, the verse does establish the principle that speaking words is only valuable for other people when they can be heard and understood. This raises the issue for me of the need to seek to speak so that our words are audible and clear. In many ways we can say that if you speak and cannot be heard then you should not speak. Now this most certainly applies to preachers, but it also has general application in conversations with others.
So when you speak, think about whether those who should hear you, can hear you. Think about the loudness of your voice and the clarity of your words.
