To venable (verb): To randomly muse upon this and that.

What remarkable words these are from Habakkuk 3:17-18:

Though the fig-tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the sheepfold
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Saviour.

I remember a farming couple quoting these words in 2001 when foot and mouth disease had meant the culling of their herd. Truly apposite they were for them. But also they have a power into all of our lives.

Do I find fulfillment in comfortable and secure circumstances or in Christ? What provokes me to be delighted; my circumstances or Christ? If all my possessions were taken away how happy would I be? Do I trust God to supply all my need?

These are probing questions I feel..
