Seeking the LORD

In 2 Chronicles 26:5 we read of King Uzziah that He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success. How the LORD delights for His people to seek Him.  When His people are turning to His Word to discover Himself and His ways, He loves to respond to those who do this and grant blessing. He delights in His people coming before Him. And in this verse we see how He brings prosperity to the one who seeks Him.

What an encouragement this is to be continually drawing near to the LORD.

And yet we must ask the questions: What is success? and how do we measure success? In many ways success is difficult to evaluate. This is particularly so when we are not the ones who are defining what success is. It is the LORD’s verdict on what is prosperous and how it is prosperous that matters. Indeed we may not fully recognise the prosperity He gives because of our earth-bound perspective on things.

However, it is a great verse to stir our souls to seek the Lord and know as a result that His favour rests upon us.

The topic of success brought to mind Paul, who consider his life nothing but for spreading the gospel to all. Would that, as Christians, perhaps be a good model of what success is?
