Nature has many beautiful ways of representing spiritual truth to us. One I want to muse on here is that of how plants grow towards the light.
If you place a plant on an inside window sill; it always grows towards the window and the natural light outside. They do not grow towards the inside of the house. Their natural inclinations always to be drawn towards the sun. And as they are drawn to the sun so they grow.
This reminds me of two scriptures:
- When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’ (John 8:12). When we set ourselves towards the true light we will always have enough light to grow in true life.
- Peter’s longing in 2 Peter 3:18 was for those who read his letter to Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever! Amen. We will only grow in grace when we are looking to the true light. We need to look to Christ through His Word.
