To venable (verb): To randomly muse upon this and that.

When we are preaching the good news of Jesus Christ, should we preach about how all those who believe are destined to be blessed by eternally being with the LORD in glory?

Paul says the following in Colossians 1:3-6a:

“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people — the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you”

The order here is fascinating. The gospel came to the Colossians and in that message they heard about “the hope stored up for you in heaven”. The preacher, who was most probably Epaphras, declares to them how for all those who come to Christ there is the promise of eternal glory. As a result of being aware of this great prospect, there was a response to the message so they could secure this great benefit for themselves. Accordingly, they had faith ; they believed in Jesus Christ. And as a result of that faith, they are now displaying changed lives. They are loving all of God’s people.

This makes us think about how we present the Gospel message to people. What we present to them will have big consequences for how they respond. The full-orbed gospel which includes the presentation of the hope of heaven, encourages faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. And such people of faith will be loving the other people of the faith.
