To venable (verb): To randomly muse upon this and that.

What is it that drives me forward to persevere in seeking to serve God? Here are three scriptures which of late have given me a pushing forward:

  • Paul has been speaking about Christ his Lord and says He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me (Col. 1:28-29). In all our labourings in the Word and in people’s lives our goal is that everyone will be found mature in Christ Jesus.
  • As he concludes his second letter, Peter urges the believers to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: To him be glory both now and forever! Amen (2 Pet. 3:18). So I long and pray that all would be growing in the knowing of Jesus Christ. Through every means we labour so that all experience and grow in knowing Jesus Christ. And this is all with a goal to God being glorified.
  • In concluding his letter to the Colossian congregation Paul has a particular message to one member of that congregation. Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the Lord.”(Col. 4:17).  So I pray and labour so as to seek to discern giftings in the church. And in seeking this we want to establish all in the church in the ways God has appointed for each with a view to everyone fulfilling their calling in the LORD.

In the overarching purview of these things I am a failure. But it is better to have goals and miss them than to have no goals at all!
