Five more minutes

It is good always to be learning. One idea I came across earlier in the year was that of giving the children a five minute warning. This refers to when you are going to bring an activity to an end or plan to leave somewhere.

So rather saying that they have to stop something straight away or leave straight away, you give them a five / ten minute warning. This:

  • Gives then a few minutes to wind down to bring the activity to an end.
  • It gives them a few more minutes to enjoy what they are doing.
  • They read it as you being generous to give them a few more minutes.
  • It gives them a few minutes to digest that they are going to move to something else.

I had never thought of this before. I have tried to put it into practice.
