It is a precious thing to know the living reality of the Word of God into your situation. To be listening to preaching, sitting in a Bible Study or reading the Word by yoursel,f and suddenly, something from the Lord specifically bears upon your own situation.
One such remembrance, if i am correct in my recollection, was at the beginning of 2006 when Dave Legg was preaching at Feltham. This Scripture bore in on me to encourage me to perseverance. “Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory” (2 Tim. 2:10). It was a blessed encouragement from the Lord. There was a purpose to the hardnesses of ministry. It was that the Lord’s people might be eternally blessed. It was that those not yet saved would be found among the elect. It was not just a grin-and-bear-it experience. It was an enduring with expectation.
After all we are not here for ourselves. We are here to be for the glory of God and benefit of others.
And there was an “all things” involved. it was not for me to “cherry pick” what i did and what i did not want to go through. It was the Lord’s sovereign choosing.
So the gift of that scripture into my life at that time was truly a staging post of grace from the Lord. It encouraged me to keep on. Thank you Lord.
